Am I the only one that checks this?!?!?!?!?? Maybe you all just have a life, I should get one sometime! I guess I just get too excited about food and recipes.
Anyway, I got this recipe of off a local morning show. I haven't made it, but it looks really good and very vercitile. It is out of the Lion House Christmas cookbook.
2 cups shortening
1 cup white sugar
1 cup packed brown sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon almond extract
4 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
2 teaspoons cream of tarter
(You can add chocolate chips, chopped nuts, rasins, chopped dried fruits, other chocolates, coconut, M&Ms, candies, etc. You can add whatever you want---this is why it is called a Million Dollar cookie!!)
Cream shortening, sugars, eggs, vanilla, and almond extract in a large bowl until light and fluffy. In a separate bowl sift together flour, baking soda, and cream of tarter. Add gradually to creamed mixture. Chill dough for 1 hour.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mold dough into 1-inch balls. Place on greased cookie sheets. Flatten each cookie with the bottom of a drinking glass that has been dipped in sugar to prevent sticking. Bake for 10 minutes. Cool on a wire rack. Store in a covered container. Makes 5 dozen
On the show they made these with pecans, chocolate chips, PLAIN (no mix-ins), pistacios and white chocolate chips, and as sandwich cookies. Apparently the dough freezes well.
So have fun mixin' it up!!!!
I am hosting a cookie swap this week and I'm thinking of making this dough and just putting out a bunch of mix-ins for my guests to use to make their own cookie dough to take home.

No...you're not the only one! I have no life...I check it every day (actually a bunch of times every day). I have a question for you. At Sharon's you were saying that you're favorite way to have a cupcake is plain yellow cake with dark chocolate ganache on top. How do you make the ganache? Like how much chocolate and cream do you use? And what type of chocolate have you found that's good? Love you idea for a cookie swap! We're having a cupcake filling/topping party this wed. so I'm looking for good ideas! Thanks and it was fun to see you last week! - Emily
Alas, I too have no life. I check this blog daily. I check a lot of blogs daily. Mostly because when I get a free minute to relax, I fall asleep reading a book and I'm sick of TV. All these recipes look so good, and I'm so excited to try them. btw, beth, when I get to UTah, we're going to have a soup swap!!
Emily-
Ganauche is a wonderful thing! I love just thinking about it. I use the Hershey BIG bars of Dark Chocolate and just plain old heavy cream. (this is the healthy version, can you tell?!!?) I use equal parts cream and chocolate. 8 ozs of each. Heat the cream until it is very hot, but not boiling. Then pour it over the chocolate and stir to melt. If you want to know the more in-depth version email my mom. She is the ganauche queen!!! Sometimes I think she is made of chocolate!
Love you much,
Beth
